International Women's Day

Samsung Climate Solutions is celebrating International Women's Day 8th March, 2024 by continuing to highlight female talent within the HVAC industry. In the spirit of International Women's Day theme 'Inspire Inclusion', we recognise those who support the training and development of the next wave of installers. As the UK works towards hitting its decarbonisation targets, we want to encouarge more people to upskill into the low carbon heating sector, especially women.

Samsung Climate Solutions has partnered with social enterprise Your Energy Your Way to launch their traineeship scheme designed to increase the numbers of trained low carbon heating installers. Traineeship Scheme Mission

Leah Robson, Founder and Managing Director of Your Energy Your Way, set up her business in 2018 to especially encourage more women to enter the industry. The training programme is rooted in real world experience and combined with payment of the Living Wage, encourage new entrants of all ages and backgrounds into the industry.

Georgia, one of the trainees from the YEYW traineeship scheme, is being mentored by Samsung Climate Solutions' Heating Business Development Manager Aimee Holloran, who also started her career as a plumbing apprentice. Highlighting Women at Samsung Climate Solutions

"This is an amazing industry for everyone and should especially include women."

Aimee Holloran, South England and South Wales Heating Business Development Manager, is one of the mentors of the YEYW traineeship scheme. She is really passionate about advocating for women in the HVAC inudstry and is supporting the career growth of Georgia, the trainee.

“Inspiring inclusion, for me, is to foster a positive culture where everyone feels valued and equal.” Aimee said. As the industry grows, she believes that having a diversity within the sector will help foster innovation and creativity. It provides the opportunity to strengthen our development as a society and celebrate unique perspectives. “This does not only help with the growth within the industry, but is also an evolution shift within our generation towards a more inclusive and diverse society.”

Klaudia Szweda-Adelaja is Samsung Climate Solutions' Air Conditioning Product Manager, and has an environmental engineering background. She reflects on her experience of being a female engineer within the HVAC industry.

'My favourite Confucius quote is ‘If you are the smartest person in the room – you are in the wrong room.’ Klaudia said. Never stop learning, show up. Collaborate and learn from people who are willing to share their experience. There is always a point of view that you did not think of before. If someone underestimates you – let them. Only you know what you are capable of.

Rebecca Smith, Yorkshire and North East Cooling Business Development Manager, has been in the industry for over 19 years and has worked with an industry magazine and wholesaler before starting at Samsung Climate Solutions. She shares her experience and opinions in terms of diversity within the industry.

For any new starters, Rebecca advised not to let the perception of a male dominated industry deter you. “There are many examples of women working in what are perceived as being male dominated industries. This industry is amazing to be part of and I have never felt held back from achieving my goals.”
